This paper explores the concept of “community” and its potential as a viable tool for fostering justice and equity in energy transitions; also outlining “community energy justice” as scholarship emerging through convergence around: community, energy transition, and justice. The paper presents a robust research agenda including the examination of broader social justice linkages, identifying barriers, exploring mechanisms, expanded geographies, strategic evaluations, and understanding actor motivations.
