On January 7 and January 10, we welcomed more than 50 residents to interactive community workshops. These residents work, live, or have other connections to Toronto’s St. Lawrence Neighbourhood.

University of Toronto Scarborough’s Professor Patricia Romero-Lankao and Professor Yu Chen hosted the workshops. They worked with the St. Lawrence Neighbourhood Association and Toronto Community Housing Corporation. Together, they focused on conversations to shape a flourishing, healthier, greener, and more connected neighbourhood.

These workshops brought together residents, local businesses, building owners, youth, elders, and researchers. Participants re-imagined the future by exploring block-level retrofitting in the St. Lawrence community. They also discussed the public spaces that connect them, such as sidewalks, bike lanes, roads, parks, and green spaces.

The workshops explored how to ensure climate action is also inclusive social action that benefits everyone. They also considered what it means to co-create a plan that includes all residents, especially those whose voices are often left out.
