On June 16, 2026, an orientation session was held for undergraduate and graduate students from the Autonomous Metropolitan University, Xochimilco, who are participating in the workshop: How Do You Move Around the City? The purpose of the session was to present the methodology, objectives and expected outcomes within the overall framework of the “Moving the Youth” research project. The session aimed to provide participants with the necessary conceptual and methodological elements to develop the photographic exercise, highlighting the potential of PhotoVoice as a participatory research methodology that allows for the documentation and analysis of students’ lived experiences through photography. Photovoice seeks to have students express, from their own perspective, the problems, barriers, emotions, and perceptions they experience while moving around the city, using images as a means to critically reflect on their mobility practices and the urban environment that shapes them.
The session was co-led by Dr. Patricia Romero-Lankao, from the University of Toronto. Dr. Angélica Rosas Huerta, from the Autonomous Metropolitan University, Xochimilco, and Dr. Valerie Berseth, from the University of Québec, who presented the foundations of the methodology, the research objectives, and the guidelines for the development of this participatory method.
