Community of Practice
A global platform connecting researchers, communities, and policy-makers to advance just sustainability transitions
Overview
The Community of Practice (CoP) bridges the gap between ambitious climate policies and the realities of communities, ensuring that all voices are heard and included in decision-making.
This hub facilitates the co-production of actionable knowledge among residents, researchers, and city officials to help address entrenched inequities in regulations, programs, and investments, and ensure fair distribution of benefits from sustainable transitions.
Background
The Community of Practice was launched in April, 2025 to create a collaborative network for researchers, policy-makers, and local actors to share knowledge and influence climate action. It was established to move beyond traditional top-down research models and foster participatory processes and methods.
Mission
Our mission is to support sustainability transitions that are research-based, procedurally just, and shaped by the knowledge and experiences of marginalized communities.
Activities
Engage in dedicated spaces (Research, Policy, Local Community) to share best practices methodologies, and theories of change.
Join interactive collaborations co-producing knowledge with communities and city actors by documenting experiences, challenges, and lessons learned from real-world transition initiatives.
Develop and test practical tools and frameworks to support inclusive decision-making and just transition implementation at the local level.
Connect local challenges to international efforts by sharing insights and outputs openly through briefs toolkits, and digital resources to support replication and scaling across contexts.
Who Should Join?
The Community of Practice welcomes researchers, students, policy-makers, community organizations, and other city-relevant actors.
