The governance structure of CERC NEST ensures effective management and strategic oversight of the initiative’s tasks and objectives.
The Core Advisory Team (CAT) supports the Chair, Professor Romero-Lankao, in advancing the CERC NEST agenda.
Their responsibilities include:
- Engaging with current and potential partners and collaborators.
- Establishing research partnerships that align with CERC NEST’s goals.
- Ensuring the implementation and regular updates of our strategic plans.
Aligning deliverables with the initiative’s objectives and ensuring high-quality outcomes.

Our Advisory Boards
CERC NEST’s governance is further supported by two advisory boards.
UTAB (University of Toronto Advisory Board)
Composed of UofT and UTSC leadership, UTAB provides high-level strategic guidance, ensuring that resources, infrastructure, and research partnerships align with the initiative’s objectives. They oversee the effective use of resources and ensure that research and data management plans are continuously updated.
IAB (International Advisory Board)
The IAB brings together experts in equity, energy, and sustainability transitions to offer feedback on research directions, new problem areas, and the societal implications of CERC NEST’s work. They focus on ensuring that the methodologies developed benefit underserved communities locally, nationally, and internationally.
