As cities push to decarbonize, our CERC NEST community of practice discussed how to center justice and community care within housing transitions, ensuring these projects address systemic inequities alongside environmental goals. Two guest speakers participated in a moderated dialogue:

  • Daniela Rosner (University of Washington) whose work explores design, care, and justice in built environments
  • Marianne Touchie (University of Toronto) who leads research on building retrofits and thermal resilience

The conversation was moderated by Patricia Romero-Lankao and the session was moderated by Valerie Berseth.Together, the panel discussed the most pressing issues for equity in climate resilient housing, and how community-centered design can shift power to residents and move towards care-centered futures.
