From October 12–14, 2026, CERC NEST’s Patricia Romero-Lankao, Miriam Castillo Orozco, and Selene Nohemí Cuevas Islas attended the Justice First! Early Career Researcher Workshop at Imperial College London.

During the workshop, Selene Nohemí Cuevas Islas presented “Tosepan Titataniske: A Worldview That Transforms,” highlighting how Indigenous ancestral knowledge and community-led initiatives are shaping more sustainable ways of living in Mexico. Her presentation focused on Tosepan Titataniske, a cooperative movement rooted in Masewal and Tutunaku cultures. She explored how the movement brings together traditional knowledge, community organization, and environmental care through initiatives such as sustainable tourism, renewable energy, housing, and water management.

Miriam Castillo Orozco shared her ongoing doctoral research on developing practical tools to help Latin American Indigenous Peoples navigate the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) system. Her work focuses on making international climate processes more accessible to Indigenous communities and supporting their engagement in climate governance.

The workshop also offered opportunities to explore broader questions around justice and sustainability. For CERC NEST, the workshop was a chance to connect with researchers working on similar challenges across different contexts.
